Louisville City FC has acquired one of the USL Championship’s top two-way midfielders by signing All-League First Team selection Taylor Davila to a multi-year contract, it was announced Tuesday.
Davila, whose deal is pending league and federation approval, had a career year last season when scoring six goals, numbering five assists and ranking second in the league with 66 chances created at Rio Grande Valley FC.
“Signing Taylor was one of our priorities this offseason,” said coach Danny Cruz. “His tactical awareness and quality on the ball were two things that stood out to us. He had a good season individually last year, but I believe the best has yet to come for him. We are looking forward to getting him to Louisville, and I’m excited to get to work with him.”
The 23-year-old Davila played one breakout season for Rio Grande Valley after spending the 2021 and 2022 campaigns with LA Galaxy II. From Sherman Oaks, California, he attended the University of California, where he was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team.
In addition to his stout offensive numbers for Rio Grande Valley, Davila passed last season with 84.4% accuracy, made 203 recoveries and tallied 49 tackles at a 73.1% success rate.
“I had a pretty good year last year with Rio Grande Valley, and they folded, so I was looking to go somewhere new — maybe a bit of a bigger city and better opportunity,” Davila said. “Last year with RGV, I was playing a higher role in the midfield than I had in the last couple of years. I think that really gave me the freedom to be closer to the goal and really affect the game and be more dangerous offensively. I’d like to continue that this year and really mesh well with my new teammates.”
Davila’s signing continues a busy offseason for LouCity, which has also signed, among others, reigning USL Championship Defensive Player of the Year Arturo Ordóñez to complement a core of returning players. The boys in purple kick off their 10th anniversary season in March.
