Seven goalkeepers are in contention for the best save in this year’s USL Cup Playoffs. A testament to Louisville City FC’s Greg Ranjitsingh? He’s the only player on the list with two saves up for the award decided by fan voting.
Ranjitsingh, a breakout star in 2016, registered five saves in LouCity’s Eastern Conference Quarterfinal win over the Richmond Kickers. One of them during the Oct. 2 game — a quick move to the ground on a Richmond header — is up for “Save of the USL Playoffs.”
Another of his efforts Oct. 16, in the Eastern Conference Final, prevented a New York Red Bulls II goal from distance. As Vincent Bezecourt struck from outside the box, Ranjitsingh reached far to his right, deflecting the try away from his goal. That one, too, can be voted on by LouCity fans through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

On the season, Ranjitsingh, who also received LouCity’s first full international call up to represent Trinidad and Tobago in World Cup qualifying, posted a save percentage of 72.5 and allowed just 0.83 goals against per game.
