LOUISVILLE, Ky.— After six days and nearly 1,000 voices were heard, the United Soccer League’s newest trophy has a name. Louisville City FC and league-newcomer FC Cincinnati will compete for the River Cities Cup in head-to-head league action, starting in 2016.

The trophy’s title was selected after a two-phase digital campaign allowed fans to submit entries to be voted on throughout a 10-day period. With several dozen suggestions, the field was narrowed to five finalist submissions.
Voting on the finalists was closed at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, and the runaway winner — with more than 50 percent of the vote — was River Cities Cup. Once polls closed, Steamboat Cup (20 percent) and Riverboat Rivalry Cup (14 percent) competed closest with the eventual winner.
The League’s newest rivalry will take shape on April 16 as Eastern Conference finalist Louisville City visits FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium.
